Thailand is the most visited tourist destination of Southeast Asia, with a tropical climate, breathtaking natural beauty, inspiring temples, great beaches and superb cuisine. Even inexperienced travelers can travel independently in Thailand, as long as they dont travel too far off the beaten track. Adventurous travelers could head almost anywhere without too much difficulty. The itinerary below will give first-time visitors a whirlwind tour of the country:

Day 1 – Arrive in Bangkok.

Day 2 – Bangkok.

Day 3 – Day trip to Ayutthaya to see the historic ruined temples; or for nature lovers, a trip to Khao Yai National Park. Return in the evening.

Days 4-6 – Fly from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and explore the northern provincial capital and surrounding area.

Day 7 – Fly directly south to Koh Samui or Phuket.

Days 8-9 – Enjoy the beach life for a couple of days.

Day 10- Return to Bangkok and depart Thailand.

If you are particularly interested in ruins, make a loop north and northeast from Bangkok and see all of the best ruins in about 5 days using a rented car with driver (or in a week if youre taking trains and buses). A nice route is Bangkok-Ayutthaya-Lop Buri-Sukhothai-Udon Thani-Phimai-Bangkok.

Whatever itinerary you choose, you will likely pass through Bangkok more than once-the best ruins are north and northeast of the capital, the best trekking is northwest and the islands are all south of Bangkok to the east and west. Nearby beaches can be reached within three to four hours from Bangkok by bus; the large island beaches such as Koh Samui and Phuket are an hour away by plane.

Among the various Asian countries, one destination that holds much allure – with its fascinating kaleidoscope of sights and scenery is Thailand. Leave it to the Thais to combine huge respect for the past, notably its heritage, and a zest for modern pleasures, which translates to many exciting things to do while in the “land of the free.” Yes, the land of the free-spirited is highly favored for its golfing destinations, beaches, nature parks, Buddhist temples and plush luxury hotels or villas that overlook majestic scenery.

If you’ve decided on a Thailand trip as a special gift or holiday treat for yourself and immediate family members, you are bound to encounter one of the most thrilling adventures of your lives. Key to navigating yourself well and making the most of your vacation is to have a handy list of things you can do while in your target destination. That way you will ensure that you do not miss out on all the fun, excitement and mystical spell that your Thailand trip can very well provide. So you’ve heard about beautiful caves, great spots for diving and snorkeling, the hundred-year-old temples and the famous night bazaars? If any or all of these captivate you and your brood, try booking yourself, with family in tow, in a luxury hotel that may be accessible to these areas. If you so wish, the hotel may even gladly arrange a vehicle transfer to the sites you prefer to visit.

If solace, or a private refuge is what you and your family prefer, veer away from tourist traps and check out great accommodations like charming villas or family-friendly luxury hotels even before embarking on your much-awaited Thailand trip.

If your target destination or jump-off point to your Thailand adventure is Phuket, a mesmerizing hip hotel, which has a quaint, elegant charm, yet is thoroughly and invitingly Thai is Amanpuri. This sanctuary for tired urban souls seeking a tropical haven for total rejuvenation of mind, body and soul preserves the vision of Phuket as an escape destination. You and your brood will surely have a grand time at the beach, which is framed by dense rainforests stretching beyond your idyllic spot.

Phuket, Thailand’s largest island, used to be a backpacker’s Mecca. While it has been transformed into a popular tourist destination, it has retained a semblance of the real Thailand. It is suited for families yearning to do everything while in foreign soil, or to simply relax and enjoy the scenery. For restless spirits and adventure-seekers, interesting souvenirs are teeming in the markets, religious temples offer the opportunity to trace an ancient past, Sino-Portuguese architectural wonders and nature parks beckon, and sports/cultural activities like kickboxing and classical Thai dances beguile. All these are must-see options that can add color to your Thailand trip.

From Phuket, you can take day excursions to Phang Nga to soak in the sights, or to Phi Phi Islands for some snorkeling fun. Or you may simply want to laze around the beach. The smaller Phi Phi Le island has cliffs where the famous bird’s nest can be sourced and harvested. You may also be thrilled by hidden coves and other attractions in the area. Indeed, Thailand is a place of mystery and adventure that never fails to lure travelers across the world. In all probability, there will be no room for regret that you opted to take that Thailand trip.
